Our monthly Zoom calls are held every third Thursday of the month at 11:00am EDT. These Zoom call with your fellow camp and conference leaders will cover a specific topic, as well as offer mutual support. We hope you will be a part of the conversation each month. Please join us for the Zoom call listed below at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88029467322.
Due to the Christmas holidays, we are moving up our next call to Thursday, December 14 at 11:00am Eastern.
Our special speaker is Rachel Pretlow from the Autism Society of Central Virginia. During our one-hour call, she will provide us with Autism 101 training. In her presentation, participants will gain foundational knowledge and practical strategies for setting Autistic individuals up for success in the camp environment. This training will review common characteristics of people on the Autism spectrum. It will also cover ways to address barriers to the participation of Autistic individuals in camp programs. Rachel will provide participants with strategies for communication, sensory accommodations, and effective preparation in order to enhance the experience of campers with Autism.
Rachel Pretlow, M.H.Sc. is the Community Engagement Manager at the Autism Society of Central Virginia (ASCV). She oversees the Autism Friendly Communities program, which provides local businesses and organizations with training and resources to enhance inclusion of Autistic individuals and their families. Rachel is also the co-Chair of the ASCV’s Self-Advocate Council, which is a group of Autistic adults that contributes to the organization’s planning and implementation of events, programs, and trainings.
We hope you will join us for a time of training and sharing among your fellow camp and conference leaders.
